In The Heart of Sydney's Darling Harbour

History

Today "The Woolbrokers" offers you that unique experience of homely comfortable, affordable accommodation in the heart of Sydney with all its original charm and character. Pyrmont was not always the bustling area it is now, traditionally very industrial, the area has gone through an amazing transformation to become the World Class destination it is today. With Darling Harbour on our doorstep, you have immediate access to beautiful waterways and a vast array of entertainment and venues.

Early Pyrmont

John Macarthur acquired the portion of land for a gallon of rum in 1799 and this eventually became the Pyrmont Estate.

Pyrmont was named by a group of women picnicking who commented on the beauty of the peninsular that reminded them of  "Bad Pyrmont"  a popular spa near Hanover in Germany.

Once a vital component of Sydney’s waterfront, with wharves, shipbuilding yards, railway yards, factories and wool stores, Pyrmont became rundown as industry moved out. The population declined but in recent years Pyrmont has experienced a building boom and an influx of residents and office workers.

Traditionally a thriving shipping port complete with railway yards, Darling Harbour has evolved as a world class tourist attraction with something for everyone. Today the streets surrounding us are flush with cafes, alfresco dining and boutique hotels creating a village like atmosphere.

The Woolbrokers Hotel was first established in 1886 as a pub three years after the Goldsborough Mort was built across the road and was well known amongst the earlier generations of wool employees, buyers and brokers hence the name “The Woolbrokers”.

Hotels near Sydney Entertainment, Convention and Exhibition Centres - Goldsborough MortWith 19 Wool stores, the wharf and railway yards (now Darling Harbour) in the immediate vicinity there was never a shortage of workers looking for a drink. The Woolbrokers Hotel filled this need.

In 1991 The Woolbrokers was totally refurbished to a Bed and Breakfast.

Our guests are looking for clean, comfortable, affordable accommodation in a prime location with easy access to everything Sydney has to offer.
